Hi, I’m Dawn Leyman and I am the Deputy Head of Profession for Statistics here in HMRC. We are recruiting once again for Statisticians to fill a range of posts in London, Liverpool, Manchester and Southend. As part of our team, you will find yourself working across a variety of interesting areas where you will:

  • Estimate the impacts on government revenues from changes to the tax system and provide forecasts to assess the overall fiscal position. You may also be directly influencing the Chancellor’s decisions on Budget day by providing analysis and developing models on tax policy.
  • Publish a wide range of National and Official Statistics on areas such as Corporation Tax and Income Tax receipts, Tax Credits and Child Benefit claims. You will also work with the UK Statistics Authority to ensure our published statistics meet the required standards set out in the Code of Practice for Statistics.
  • Help HMRC identify more efficient ways of operating and reduce the amount of tax not currently collected. You may also be involved in developing a range of predictive analytics tools to improve customer service.

These are just a few examples of the challenging, varied and important work of analysts within HMRC and how as a statistician you could be shaping the future of government and play a key part in improving policy.

If you are newly qualified, a professional analyst or a data scientist looking for opportunities to influence economic, social and environmental policy then I hope you do take a look at what’s on offer. The closing date for applications is Friday 17th April.
